The lift pictured took place when the North of England Zoological
Society asked us to arrange the loading of a Bull Elephant to be
shipped to France as part of the world wide breeding programme.
The elephant weighed 6.2 tons and the purpose built container in
the picture above weighed 6.4 tons.
Our team of experts arrived at Chester Zoo at the crack of dawn
to ensure all the arrangements were made prior to the lift taking
place. A machine with the ability to work in confined spaces but
with a good capacity was called for and the Demag AC40-1 was chosen
for its high lifting capacity to size qualities.
The excellent sound and acoustic qualities of the machine were essential
for making the operation quiet and less distressing for the elephant
and surrounding animals. Other lifts at the zoo have included relocation
of White Rhinoceros and general construction duties.
